Microplastics in soil induce a new microbial habitat, with consequences for bulk soil microbiomes

چکیده

Microplastic (MP) pollution poses a threat to agricultural soils and may induce significant loss of the soil quality services provided by these ecosystems. Studies in marine environments suggest that this impact is mediated shifts microbiome. However, studies on mode action MP materials microbiome are rare, particularly when comparing effects different materials. In study, we characterized microbiota colonizing two materials, granules made polypropylene (PP) expanded polystyrene (ePS), introduced into arable incubated for 8 weeks using molecular barcoding approach. We further assessed consequences bulk soil. The complexity bacterial communities was significantly higher ePS compared PP. Many detected genera belonged taxa, known degrade polymeric substances, including TM7a, Phenylobacterium, Nocardia, Arthrobacter Streptomyces . Interestingly, samples amended with microbial diversity after control soil, which without composition differed. Mainly Acidobacteria were mostly found whereas they rare colonizers Differences community between affected not found. Overall, our data indicate form new niche microbes specific depending used, strongly influencing short term. Long-term associated functions need be elaborated future proper risk assessment terrestrial

Soil Microbial Biomass Determination

Basic Idea: The quantity of microbial biomass in a given soil sample is inherently difficult to measure. To some degree, any measurement of microbial biomass is relative – different methodologies or variations in methodologies will yield microbial biomass estimates that are not directly comparable. For this reason, if you want to measure microbial biomass – choose a method and stick with it exa...

Influence of Herbicide Triasulfuron on Soil Microbial Community in an Unamended Soil and a Soil Amended with Organic Residues

The effect of organic amendments and pesticides on a soil microbial community has garnered considerable interest due to the involvement of microorganisms in numerous soil conservation and maintenance reactions. The aim of this work was to assess the influence on a soil microbial community of the simultaneous application of the herbicide triasulfuron at three doses (2, 10, and 50 mg kg-1), with ...

Natural product biosynthetic gene diversity in geographically distinct soil microbiomes.

The number of bacterial species estimated to exist on Earth has increased dramatically in recent years. This newly recognized species diversity has raised the possibility that bacterial natural product biosynthetic diversity has also been significantly underestimated by previous culture-based studies. Here, we compare 454-pyrosequenced nonribosomal peptide adenylation domain, type I polyketide ...

Differential Assemblage of Functional Units in Paddy Soil Microbiomes

Flooded rice fields are not only a global food source but also a major biogenic source of atmospheric methane. Using metatranscriptomics, we comparatively explored structural and functional succession of paddy soil microbiomes in the oxic surface layer and anoxic bulk soil. Cyanobacteria, Fungi, Xanthomonadales, Myxococcales, and Methylococcales were the most abundant and metabolically active g...
